Proud to be a Filam Artist

Representing

When school takes over your life (and living room)

My workspace in the living room.
School has been killer. Honestly I might have too much time to do things so I end up putting them off even more or I just spend way too much time on it. I do those things because I care too much and I don't want to mess up (and some days I'm lazy as hell). The paintings are for my advanced painting class. We are working and reworking a series of twenty paintings. I chose still life and a smaller support for intimacy, portability, and I'm a cheap ass but I am starting to really connect with these paintings the more I spend time on them. I'm starting to find the life narrative and personality of each coffee cup and it's really helping me find the joy in painting these (finally after four weeks).
Life also has flipped my shit into creative mode because what better way to deal with your emotions than channel it elsewhere! Eheh... yeah.

Instagram

I really should be using blogger more so than Instagram because of Instagram's sketchy policies but it's so convenient.

Color Theory

My favorite thing about art would have to be color. It is expressive, full of meaning, character, and emotion. I found this old color wheel I created in community college as a study of how colors work. As a printer and a painter, this is my LIFE right here. From split complementary to tetrads, tints and shades, warm and cool, neutral grey, additive and subtractive color, saturation and value - I could go on all day! If you have not looked into color theory, I highly recommend that you do. You don't even need to be an artist, it can apply to outfit of the day inspirations, paint swatches for your new apartment, or what sharpie should I use to help express how upsetting the government is at the moment. Color is everywhere and how we see color and how light works is absolutely amazing.

I'm behind on posting already...

School has been in session for a few weeks and time has flown by so fast. Sadly, the printing lab lost a wonderful advisor, talented printer, and friend. These are the very first etchings she guided me through last spring 2016. May she rest in peace knowing that we love her dearly and she is greatly missed. Cheers to the wonderful Valerie Wheeler.
